Kenny Andrew
Great pictures Mr Bridger what was the zum turken?
mr bridger
The Turken was a guest house before the fuhrer took over the obersalzberg, it was to the rear of the berghof and its owners were turfed out by bormann as were all of the residents on the obersalzberg, a security cordon was thrown around the area and the turken was used by the ss lah as accomodation and a gaurd house. it was virtualy destroyed by the raf in 45, the original owners fought to get it back for some time and it was returned to them and redeveloped and is used to this day as a guest house. their is a bunker system underneath it that leads you to the fuhrer bunker it has been bricked off at the entrance although someone has removed a couple of bricks so you can look inside. Greg
Just spent near the entire month of October in Germany including a week in/near Bertesgarten... was unable to make it to the Eagles Nest due to snow which closed the road but did manage the documentation centre and the bunker complex... excellent museum showing the regime in open honesty... worth a trip for anyone
