Note the thick leather straps on the men, these were used to move the sled mount for the gun.
Gildwiller1918
Interesting image of German soldiers using a periscope mirror, never seen this version before. Looks like it just sits on the buttstock and the shooter manually pulls the trigger.

Gildwiller1918
Image of a Dreyse machine gun and crew. This gun was introduced in 1912, and was named in honor of Nikolaus von Dreyse, the inventor of the German needle gun. It was patented in 1907 and rights were assigned to Rheinische Mct-allwaren und Maschinenfabrik A.G. of Dur dorf. It was designed to be a light machine gun, weighing 37 pounds, minus the full 4 liter water jacket. The gun was updated in 1915, however did not perform well, this was corrected in the 1918 update, in which the gun exceeded expectations. By 1914, the Germans decided to go with the MG-08, and around 3,000 Dreyse's were built. Another modification to the Dreyse was to modify the tripod mount to accept the MG 08/15 bipod. It also used the same cloth belts and ammo cans.
