  3. Here's 2 D.A.F. contribution books. 1st is for H.J. member Hermann Loos started paying contributions at age 14, carried on paying the H.J. rate of 30 reichpfennigs a month until Feb 41 when he became 18 then started to pay a more adult rate depending on the class rate of job he was doing. The better the job the higher the class rate the more you earned and the more in contributions you paid, on the 1st Sept 1942 aged 19 he joined the Wehrmacht which is entered in the back of the book, his book is fully paid up to 31.12.1943. 2nd is for Jung Madel member Rosemarie Trumper started paying her contributions at age 16 at a class rate of 6 at 1.20 RM a month. then from 1943 to end of 1944 a class rate of 7 the book is fully paid up to 15.April 1945. Here's a few scans.

  5. The letter is approval to start her Community Service Year also known as ( Duty Year For Fatherland ) which was mandatory, in Agriculture and Homemaking at Mrs Pfeiffer, Strassfurt, Zollstr 6.. Usually urban recruits had to spend 1 Year on a farm while those from the countryside undertook Domestic Service. They would work in the morning receive lessons in National Socialist Ideology in the afternoon, they were allowed no vacations or parental visits or religious services. I have read that at harvest time some of these young H.J. members worked anything up to 60 hours a week.

  6. What's the odds of this happening last March I bought a box of mixed papers and documents, they were mostly letters and a few documents for people in the Third Reich. Yesterday walking past a bric a brac stall spotted the D.A.F. book for Rosemarie Trumper, I remembered I'd seen that name before so looked through the papers, this is what I found.

  8. Yes you may be right, having seen the video again looks like a party contributions book, theres not many stamps in it, can't see anybody telling him off for not paying his contributions can you.

  9. If genuine could have simply been left behind when fleeing or at his home , wouldn't have thought their would have been too many germans going to ask himmler to prove his identity

  10. Yes I agree Lackie, if genuine??. Would'nt he have burnt his I D paperwork at the end of the war, when he tried to pass himself off as a normal soldier in the hope he would'nt be identified.

  12. it is quite sad, also because the German dugouts discovered are in far better condition on the Western Front than allied positions and full of archaeology... the frightening part is how many men were possibly trapped underground alive to slowly die down there.

  13. Poignant story. It's sad that so many remains are found each year but at least the soldiers get a decent grave. It's a pity that Germany can't honour it's WW1 war dead that only served as soldiers as in other armies.
