Here is my latest purchase.

It is a pair to 78242 BMDR G HOLLOBONE R.A. The medlas have been well polished at some point and obviously worn with pride

He was entitled to not only this pair, but also to the Mons star with bar, which is unfortunatly missing from the set.

I will get some more research when i have time and i will post up the results when i get them.

Cheers Kenny.

The RA,RFA and the RGA were an important part of the war and suffered their casualties much like the line regiments but they seem to be vastly overlooked when it comes to collecting and peoples interest in the wars.I know people want to know about the guys who fought at the front line but most,if not all, major attacks were started by the big guns of the regiments.

What has amazed me is the price difference between the line regiments and the guys who operated the big guns.I have not paid any more than £30 for a pair and around £14-£15 for a single.Try getting a line regiment medals for that price!

The other one that is under rated is the RE.These guys did a lot of tunneling and specialist work. The best thing about Brit medals is the ability to research the name and number on the rim.

The bug has bitten

RE are interesting if you can research them. They had all manner of lovely little jobs.

I saw a pair once to a chemist who was one of the first in the gas sections.

People seem to forget how much the RE did during the first world war.
