Gildwiller1918 Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 I just got done reading this book titled: The Baltimore Sabotage Cell, German Agents, American Traitors, and the U-Boat Deutschland during WW1. A very interesting read that is broken into several sections as it covers multiple topics that are interwoven. The part about the sabotage conducted on US factories and transportation centers and shipyards was known to me, but the details associated with this are covered in great detail. The U-Deutschland boat and its sister ship the U-Bremen were especially interesting to read about. The U-Bremen was lost with all hands en route to the US to trade valuables such as dyes, medicines and gemstones for raw materials needed back in Germany. These boats were designed as commerce carriers not warships, the U-Deutschland was later converted to a warship after war with the US was set in motion and unrestricted warfare was again used against shipping. It survived the war but did not have a particular impact on the outcome. If you like espionage and U-Boats, it is a good read. 3 Quote
