largepizza99 Posted March 30, 2009 Share Posted March 30, 2009 I have a blu ray player and a dvd upscaler, and i think blu Ray is a complete waste of money! i bought Casino royal on dvd and then bought a year later Casino Royal on Blue ray, when i compared the 2 it was very hard to spot the difference in quality, the upscaled dvd was just as good, most blu ray films are about £20-£30 dvds are really cheap now £5-£10 buy a good dvd upscaler from argos play on a wide screen Hd tv with a hd cable and save you cash, avoid the blu ray! Kenny Andrew Posted March 30, 2009 Share Posted March 30, 2009 Hi LP welcome to the forum well I'm glad you came to your conclusion ,I came to the same one by accident.My DVD player packed in and not wanting to be without a DVD player I rushed out and got one.The one I liked was very fancy looking but not HD.I had seen HD before and was not that impressed so decided to go with the fancy looking one. On my way home I was having serious doubts I had made the right decision.It did have HD upscaler and I connected it with an HD lead, I've been pretty happy with the results and glad you have backed this up.I did't fancy paying £30 either per disc.I don't mind upgrading, but to me the difference did not seem that much of an improvement to warrant the extra cost. Kenny Andrew Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 Well my fancy looking DVD player finally died on me ,had nothing but problems with it since day one.So took the plunge and bought a new one ,this time it was Blu ray. I must admit I like it ,even although I still can't see any difference at all in quality between DVD and Blu Ray,HD and non HD.I keep telling myself it must be better quality it probably is, ever so slightly.I do like the blu ray boxes though, nice blue top and slightly more compact, not worthwhile replacing all your DVD's for but think in future I may buy Blu ray instead of standard DVD, they have come down in price now. rabek1 Posted March 10, 2013 Share Posted March 10, 2013 Im getting rid of all my dvd's and blueray disks your better off getting external hardrives and filling em up with movies i do download bluerays and they are alot better quality than standard dvd rips ,most modern players have a usb port you can connect your drive to but failing that you get a multimedia player for 40 quid playes all film formats its a nice wee gadget the size of a mobile phone i use it in the bedroom for my movies ,external hardrives save cds skiping and jumping etc nothing worse than getting half way threw a movie and it freezes lol Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

rabek1 Posted March 11, 2013 Share Posted March 11, 2013 Ye i know what your saying there it would be a nitemare if i lost one of my drives though ive never had any problems and the first one i got must have been 3 year ago still runs fine and never had a problem, though prob a good idea to backup my drives onto other drives incase i do get a problem would be pricey though as ive got 5 hardrives full of stuff now any stuff your after gimme a showt ive got tons of stuff movies and documenterys can even put stuff onto usb sticks and bring em into the store for you got quite a bit of ww2 documentarys there to Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The only thing I have been finding difficult to get is Selling Hitler, There is a Dutch DVD version of it but apparently there is allot of that version cut. If you could get hold of the US version that would be great and it's quite funny too.Would need to be burnt to disk though ,I already spend far too much time looking at computers "Selling Hitler" (1991). All past releases (Canadian and Netherlands) had 50 minutescut out of the first three episodes.
