Fritz
The old school tie. This is probably a late 19th century or early 20th century enamel badge of Clark's College, Ilford and other branches. The school tie was blue and brown, each "house" had it's own house colours, blue for Valentines, red for River, purple for Chad and yellow for manor, the houses competed with each other in sport and other subjects on a points system. The uniform was a modest grey check suit, white shirts were worn for special occasions, otherwise, grey. Shoes were to be black and well polished at all times. The school cap was brown and blue with the school badge embroidered to the front, the top was adorned with a coloured cloth button at the top and in the house colours. Head of the School was Colonel O.C.S. Dobbie, formerly of the Royal Artillery, served in the Far East with Wingate, etc. The school was private and was finally disolved in the early 1970s. On Rememberance Day, scolars were permitted to wear the medals of their fathers or grandfathers. Ian_Kel
That's a lovely looking badge, Fritz, is it maker marked on the reverse? When we were young and at school, or later college, it's funny but you never really stopped to think of the experiences some of our teachers must have had before going into teaching. There was a tutor at my art college, so the story goes, who was asked by a student what the most amazing thing was that he'd ever seen or done. He replied, "Probably flying a Lancaster bomber low over the Taj Mahal on a starlight Christmas Eve night". Turned out he'd been awarded a DFC sometime during WW2.
