CluelessTommy
I came across this article on Bonner Frank Fellers who was at the time the American military attache in Egypt, he unknowingly gave away key military secrets to the Germans as the code he was using had been broken. His detailed and often pessimistic reports on British troop movements and planned operations gave the Germans an upper hand in the war in Africa. Anyway it made for good reading and was a story that I had never heard of before so the link is below. http://www.historynet.com/intercepted-communications-a-secret-ear-for-the-desert-fox-september-96-world-war-ii-feature.htm
Fritz
This is known through Rommels biographhy, through these sources Rommel was perfectly informed about the whole situation in North Africa and could deal with the situation accordingly. When this source dried up, and when Rommels special signals detachment were discovered one day by a British patrol and taken surprise - all were either killed or captured - with these two losses, Rommel could no longer respond to the situation on the front, as he was then completely blind and in the dark, thereafter his successes began to diminish, and the Afrika Korps began to lose the war in North Africa.
