Soweit die Füsse tragen - the story of Clemens Forell, imprisoned in Moskows Ljubjanka Prison, and being sent to West Siberian Omsk - like many German p.o.w.'s in Russia, condemned to 25 years slave labour after WW2. Of over 3.200 persons on the prison transfer, only around 1.950 survived the transport. Around 1949 he escapes alone and travels thousands of kilometres, reaching Mongolia and finally Persia. He then travelled over Ankara, Istanbul and Rome, finally returning to Munich, but pysically and mentally crippled by his harsh experiences. The book was published in 1955, the film followed in 1959, long film in 4 parts, originally as a TV series.
