See: http://www.nyc-techwriters.com/militaria/german_helmets3.htm The later model has about 3 different liner systems, I have one with the very last liner system, netting and camo cover. To my knowledge the 1956 First model pattern was not issued until 56, prior to this surplus Wehrmacht were used. I'm in Germany in 2 weeks and will be meeting my ex-NVA pals who served with the engineers.
