Help with Vietnamese translation

Ross

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there able to help me translate an inscription on a trench art lighter made of cartridges that came from Vietnam. The lighter is thought to have belonged to a VC. Translation of the inscription would be interesting to clarify any such association.

Cheers

Ross

Hi Ross,

that's a tricky one sorry I don't speak Vietnamese , have you tried the yellow pages there might be a Vietnamese bussiness in your area who might be able to translate it for you.

anybody else got any ideas?

could you post a pic, sounds like an interesting item?

interesting item, is it just one lighter that slots together or is it two different lighters? any markings on the shell cases?

OK I've been trying translaters but they dont seem to work unless you enter the Veitnamese with all the correct characters , I did also google the phrase and Ky Niem is definetly Vetnamese although I can't find out what it means so far.

This could be an interesting project I'm sure Google or a good translation program will solve the riddle, I'll try again when I have some more time. :)

One lighter in 2 sections. Section at bottom of photo slides into upper piece. At a guess the lower section is made of 2 soviet - 7.62 x 39mm rounds. Indistinct marking of ??539 on base of one short round. Cant see it in the photo but one side has tigers head inscribed the other has 2 ?doves.

Tried internet translation site and got confused translation of a few words including-- bamboo dustpan

-- clean out

-- break seal

--- reddish

--- arse.

May mean something in its own cultural context but not to me.

Will bring it into TB next time I am in Glasgow along with the ss canteen tokens!
