WW1 NAVAL COMMUNICATIONS

As the title hints at

the first picture is of a painting of jack cornwell at his post awaiting orders on HMS Chester

wearing a hood,

the second photo is of a naval gunner from ww1 wearing the real thing

a variation of the speaking tubes used on board ships ,

they were for giving orders to the guns crews as the turrets back then were mostly open on 3 sides ,

as can be seen on the 3rd photo of another of HMS Chester's guns and the damage to the ships side after Jutland .........................................
