leon21
Pages 23 and 24 of the Soldbuch were for recording periods of authorised leave that were greater than 5 days, it was important that the information was completed before the soldier actually went on leave. Extra pages could be added if needed and were numbered 24a-24b and so on, below is a list of the types of leave you may find in Solbuchs. Types of Leave. ( Erholungsurlaub )-( Recovery Leave often referred to as Rest and Relaxation ). This is normal earned leave and is sometimes referred to as ( Heimalsurlaub )-( Home Leave ). ( Genesungsurlaub)-( Convalescence Leave ) following a serious illness or injury. ( Einsatzurlaub )-( Employment Leave ) usually for soldiers reaching the end of their Military Service, also referred to as ( Arbeits- urlaub )-( Working Leave ). ( Sonderurlaub)-( Special Leave ) which could be to visit injured family, to partake in sports competitions, for criminal investigations or for a soldier to marry. ( Weihnachten )-( Christmas ) which not an official type of leave numerous examples have been seen recorded. Types of Leave that were not meant to be recorded in this section, as they were less than 5 days but have been were as follows ( Nachturlaub )-( Night Leave or Night Pass ). ( Wochenendurlaub )-( Weekend Leave ). ( Festtagsurlaub )-( Holiday Leave ) which was for public holidays or ( Festival Celebrations ). ( Prothesenurlaub )-( Prostheses Leave ). ( Kurzurlaub )-( Short Break ). ( Ernteurlaub )-( Harvest Leave ). ( Tapferkeitsurlaub ) Leave for an act of Bravery. ( Fronturlaub )-( Holiday from the Front ). Greg
I love that criminal investigation and marriage fall under the same type of leave
leon21
The term Sonderurlaub or Special Leave seems to have been used for various reasons. Soldiers also needed a Sonderausweis document in conjunction with the Soldbuch to be away from their unit, here's a good example. Here we have a paymaster and his corporal from Ortskommandantur I/337 (Town Command/Headquarters, going to Bacau. reason (to pick-up Pkws ) = a personenkraftwagen like a kubelwagen or other car. On the reverse of the form we can see they arrived at the collection point on the 15.6 44 stayed overnight and started their return on the 16.6.44. On arriving back they would hand the form in at the appropriate office. It was not wise to dawdle or a soldier could be classified as being AWOL.
