jinge
Can anyone out there help me? In the 1970's and early 80's the SAS used to wear a camouflaged combat cap, I have seen picturs of it in Osprey Publishing's "THE SPECIAL AIR SERVICE" Does anyone out there know the name for this cap? Better still does anyone know where I would be able to buy one
Greg
Hi Jinge, Welcome to the forum! Few questions to help find the camo as I cannot find anything on a quick glance... Any indication of a conflict the camo was worn under? What about a deployment or area of the world (N. Ireland, Oman, Jungle combat, Falklands?) what type of cap is it? Is it a jungle boonie style hat with a rim all the way around or a standard cap with a brim?
Dave
Jinge, I have this book but it is in my house in France. As I recollect the cap is the DPM combat cap that was unpopular in the army being referred to as the "Crap Hat". It was like the M43 german cap but without the external flaps. It had an internal one that came down to cover ears and neck. I had one and quite liked it. SAS and Pathfinders liked it for its anonimity. If this is the cap you should pick it up quite cheaply but I don't know it's proper name. I think it was something like "Combat Cap DPM".
