leon21 Posted September 9, 2018 Share Posted September 9, 2018 Sir Horatio Herbert Kitchener ( 1st Earl Kitchener ) 1850-1916. Field Marshal Kitchener was a Senior British Army Officer and Colonial Administrator who won notoriety for his Imperial Campaigns, he was credited in 1898 for winning The Battle of Omdurman and securing the control of the Sudan. He was made Lord Kitchener of Khartoum and becoming a qualifying Peer, he played a big part in the early part of World War One as Secretary of State for War, on 5th june 1916 he was making his way to Russia to attend negotiations, on HMS Hampshire when it struck a German mine west of the Orkney Islands and sank Kitchener was among 737 men who died.
