German shell case, possibly cut down
This solid drawn brass shell case may have been cut down. An outer rim has been soldered to its mouth. It is still a lump, weighing 15.8kgs. It has a threaded primer pocket with one vent to the case.
The headstamp is visible, sketch attached not to scale. The German eagle mark photograph has been enlarged. It's actual size is only 10mm tall.
Dimensions are as follows - tape measure accuracy:
Length 668mm
Diameter of head rim 245mm
Internal diameter at mouth 216mm
Any information as to the manufacturer and weapon this case was made for would be welcome. I have Ian Hogg's German Artillery of World War Two but don't find a match. Perhaps this case was for a naval gun?
