Fritz
When Arthur Wellesley, The Duke of Wellington died in 1851, Prussia reintroduced a Field Marshall's Baton. Wellington was an honorary Generalfeldmarschall of the Prussian Army. Prior to his burial, it was decided that a British Marshall's Baton was to be placed in his grave, but no Prussian example, as these did not exist. Very hurriedly, a Prussian Marshall's Baton was conceived and together with the British version, was placed in his tomb. The Prussian example was 30 cm in length, covered in lightblue velvet, and mounted with golden crowns and heraldic eagles. On the crossface surfaces were black heraldic eagles on a white background. The Marshalls' Batons of other states were similar to the Prussian model, with exceptions of Bavaria, Württemberg and Saxony. The last model was from 1895.
