Greg
I had the extremely rare opportunity over the weekend to handle and see up close what is one of the best collections of Basket Hilt swords in Scotland - if not anywhere. After the '45 the Duke of Argyll who was in government pay placed most of his captured and weapons from his own regiment inside Inverary Castle. And there, on the walls, they have stayed since. Paul MacDonald of MacDonald Armouries is currently refurbishing the entire armoury for the Duke. The Basket Hilts are a mix of Government and Jacobite patterns. A handful are post-45 but most were of the battles and show massive amout of wear and battle use. Seeing the craftsmanship up so close was certainly a treat before they go back up on the walls for who know how much longer.
