ww1 mentioned in despatches this one is different,
its not from a high brow regiment,
but from an Nco in the Army Service Corps
namely:M2-121561 mechanic S Sgt HJ Bradley ASC
it became the Royal Army Service Corps in 1918,,...
so often we hear about the officers that got "GAZETTED"
in the London gazette newspaper supplement,
this was a great honour for anybody,
the definition of getting mentioned in dispatches is as follows
A soldier mentioned in despatches (or dispatches) (MiD) is one whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which is described the soldier's gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy. In
the British Armed Forces, the despatch is published in the London Gazette.
Example of a Victory Medal 1914–18 with Mention in Despatches (British) oak leaf spray
Soldiers of the British Empire or the Commonwealth of Nations who are mentioned in dispatches but do not receive a medal for their action, are nonetheless entitled to receive a certificate and wear a decoration. For 1914–1918 and up to 10 August 1920, the decoration consisted of a spray of oak leaves in bronze.[1] This decoration was only established in 1919, but it had retroactive effect. From 1920 to 1993, the decoration consisted of a single bronze oak leaf
its good to see that the regiments that also did their bit getting recognition ,
his family must have been very proud,
it is sad in a way that at the time when service men came home,
that a lot of medals were thrown away or sold , as at the time understandably they didn't want to talk about what they saw ,
but we must try to help to keep their memories alive for future generations
