Hello,

I’m coming here from Facebook because on several collector groups recommended this forum as a treasure trove of knowledge and a community of experts. I’m a collector from Poland, and I own four Leichte Minenwerfer along with numerous accessories. My collection also includes a backpack box designed to carry four 76,2 mm shells. This box was carried on the back using special straps mounted with a hook.

I’ve only managed to find one contemporary photo of such straps, which are located in the Musée Militaire de la Targette in Neuville-Saint-Vaast, France. I contacted the museum, but they were unwilling to cooperate. Unfortunately, I don’t have any other leads.

Does anyone here own such straps with a hook for the box for 4 shells for the Leichte Minenwerfer in their collection? Or perhaps you know someone or a museum that has them in their collection? I’d be grateful for any help. I just want to learn what they look like, as it’s incredibly difficult to find any information.

Best regards,

Maciej

I will ask around and see what I can find, I have seen these crates before, but never with straps. If I can get more detailed photos, I could possibly make some for you.

I have contacted some advanced collectors about this, but no one has been able to get more information. The straps appear to be cotton webbing or duct material (can't really tell from the photo). It also looks like the end of the strap has leather on it, you can see just below the elbow in the first image. On your box does it show where these straps would attach to?

I would think they have some sort of hook fitting similar to that on a breadbag strap, but larger and possibly attached to rings on the crate. This is just a guess.
Another possibility would be to contact the Imperial War Museum in London, the Heeresmuseum in Dresden, Bayerisches Armeemuseum Ingolstadt, Wehrgeschichtliches Museum Rastatt, Zeughaus (DHM) Berlin, or any other major museums in Germany, etc.
