Dave
Just finished reading Panzer Gunner by Bruno Friesen who was a gunner with 7 Panzer Div. manning Panzer IV and Jagdpanzer IV (V) 70. Interesting book as he includes lots of background on the vehicles and technical stuff on how the guns were sighted. Bruno also trained and qualified as a driver, so he is a bright bloke. Fought on the eastern front, wounded in April 45 and then worked for the British as an interpreter. Bruno was born in Russia, his family were ethnic Germans who emigrated to Canada where they were encouraged to return to Germany by German associations in Canada. Bruno qualified as an electrician in the shipyards and was then consripted into the Geramn army. After the war he returned to Canada where he had felt at home. He could not get the help the other Canadian veterans recieved. When he retired Bruno worked as a guide at the Canadian war museum which had a preserved Jagdpanzer IV (V) 70. An amusing incident in the book was when Bruno came across some Canadian POWs and amazed them by speaking perfect Canadian English while dressed in his black Panzer uniform. A good book for Panzer fans. Dave
