Wojtek the bear

Just finished reading this one, it is all about a syrian brown bear adopted by the poles in persia, he became the mascot and a war hero had his own rank and number and fought in the italian campaign.

Enjoyed a drink and a smoke with the troops unbelievable when you read it. He ended up in edinburgh zoo where he lived the rest of his natural out. Easy book too read a good one if you have any kids they will enjoy it.

Yeah good story.Came across that in an article in the Herald a few years ago.I believe the poor bear was even wounded? Is that true.

Never mentioned any thing of Wojtec being wounded thats not say he never was. The reality of war never fazed him as he was born into it, it's a crazy story but the events that transpired around him by all accounts are the real deal. The old soldiers used to visit him in the zoo and climb into the enclosure to wrestle him and give him cig's a blind eye was turned on the occasions that it happened.

really good documentary ,felt quite sad when they were considering shooting him, not sure feeding him cigerettes was such a good idea.

Tuned in and enjoyed it, it is quite a story ,would have liked to have seen the face of the officer who demanded to see corporal Wojtek before he boarded the ship.
