Greg
Very neat is it a Willys or Ford Jeep?
RAF635SQ
Its a rare Wartime Ford GPW not to be confused with the more common MB
Dave
Have seen lots of nice jeeps at W&P show. There are traders there that sell only jeep parts - anything that you can imagine for a jeep! Quite a few in France as well. Some are post war Hotchkiss though. Is the GPW the amphibious version?
RAF635SQ
The GPW is a rare Ford Jeep. Slightly Different to the Ford GPA that's the amphibious version of the GPW Jeep. We have some friends that can get parts nearly for free for our jeep.
Kenny Andrew
Hi RAF, so is it the amphibious version you have?
RAF635SQ
Nope the GPW Jeep variant
Dave
GPA was a fairly rare version. Some were supplied to the Soviets. There must be some preserved though.
RAF635SQ
Just a small update, we should hopefully have the Jeep by the end of March, its been stuck in the US for a month beacuse of slow shipping. I will of-course upload pictures when she arrives.
Kenny Andrew
Do you have to pay import tax on that? could be quite hefty.
mr bridger
wow ,do you have to pay import tax on that? could be quite hefty. Import tax is a bummer and you have to pay it unless the item is 100 years old and over as it is classed as an antique so i am told. In the UK you are taxed to death so i avoid buying outwith the EU.
RAF635SQ
Thankfully, we don't have to pay tax, as a dealer is doing that for us for free But yeah i couldn't even imagine shipping a tank to the UK.
RAF635SQ
We went to see the jeep itself today... ended up buying it and so it will begin its journey more than 200 miles down to Kent. It has a lot of matching numbers which is rare for Jeeps today. It will make its debut showing to the public at the 2012 War And Peace Show here in Kent after a full restoration by me and my dad. The jeep itself has a lot of sought after and rare parts that are never seen on many jeeps today, it should hopefully be one of the most original ones at the show. Here is a photo of it,

Greg
Good looking jeep, I like that it retains the soft top bars for it.

RAF635SQ
The Jeep is due to arrive on Friday the 13th. Bit of an unlucky date as some say but she will be all OK i should think I will post a video and some pictures of her arrival that day. From then on we plan for a monthly update on the restoration
mr bridger
RAF any updates on the Jeep bud
RAF635SQ
Quite a bit has happened since I last mentioned the Jeep It currently is sitting in pieces in the garage as we are currently waiting for the time/money to get the chassis to be sand blasted. The engine is now fully working also. We aim to have the Jeep fully completed by mid-2013. Can't remember if I told you all the story of the black widow... Well one evening we was working on the area around the gearbox and we uncovered a nasty surprise, a female black widow and its eggs... We swiftly hit it with a hammer and reported it to the council. We plan on nicknaming the Jeep "The Black Widow" in honour of the guests... Will have some more updates soon.
Greg
Black Widow's are nasty stuff... don't tell PETA what you did, and do think of charging the Council a fee for exterminating a public health hazard
mr bridger
Any updates on the project RAF,
RAF635SQ
Sadly nothing big, the Jeep currently is still in bits in the garage. The chassis is now ready for painting and the engine is now running as it did in 1944. Money is the biggest obstacle, these things are not cheap to restore sadly. It cost us £500 for a set of original tires for it, that is just how pricey it is.
Kenny Andrew
Yes but at least you are making progress slow but steady
