British made rifle wire cutter attachment. Although primary used for the SMLE, they could also be used on the Canadian Ross, US M1917 and British P14 rifles. I believe this is the No. 1 MK II model, which is the most common type found today (4 models were ultimately produced). These cutters worked with the bayonet attached, the rifleman would use the open jaws to capture a strand of barbed wire which would be forced into the back of the jaws where the blades were. Pushing motion from the rifleman made the cutter assembly rotate back towards the user, which would close the jaws and cut the wire. I have read this method worked well on the German made wire, however it was a slow process leaving the user open to enemy fire.
