WW1 Grouping

Recommended Posts

This is not my usual area (World War 1) but I picked up this grouping. A nice little grouping with a very well filled out WW1 Soldbuch.

I’d be interested to hear what the WW1 Imperial experts on the forum think.

Nice Bavarian grouping. 1st company of the 6th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, "Emperor William, King of Prussia", which fell under the 12th infantry Brigade of the 3rd Royal Bavarian Corps, garrisoned at Amberg. Could you post images of the soldbuch's interior?

The silver cross looks like the Bavarian fire brigade decoration, possibly silver and after 1920. I haven't seen an example quite like this before. Could you post a more detailed picture of this? The small badge with crowned shield is a veterans association members badge, between 1920-1934. The Militärverdienstkreuz 3. Class and case are also in very fine condition.

Hi

Here are the pictures you requested, plus one of a pencil marking on the back of the photo- very hard to read.

Here's what the cross looks like with ribbon and in new condition, was also awarded in bronze.
Metal is probably Neusilber with a frosted finish.
I see Feldwebel Josef Bachmann was enlisted as early as 1914. The Soldbuch is a Zweitschrift, meaning a replacement issue for a lost book, born 22. Oktober 1884 in Eschlkam, he lived in Mitterteich near Tirschenreuth.
He was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, 28.10.1914, the Bavarian Militärverdienstkreuz 5.5.1915.
Back of photo reads: 2. Johann Freuning (?) Brustbild (half portrait), so apparently the photo is of someone else, a friend, relative or comrade?

Forgot to mention, this is what your badge would look like when complete

Bayern, Mitgliedsabzeichen " Dreier Bund Augsburg"

Bayern, Mitgliedsabzeichen " Krieger, Veteranen - und Kampfgruppen Verein Staffelsteint"

With the name of the Veterans association, examples
