February 1962 Storm over the North Sea, the water rises along the Elbe, flooding and carrying away everything in its path, the dykes break, the port area is submerged. Helmut Schmidt, at that time, Innensenator, calls an emergency conference, he calls up an American Nato general urging for immediate assistance and helicopters. Technisches Hilfswerk and Bundeswehr are called in and immediately begin rescue and evacuation measures in the areas affected. Mike Yarnold schreibt heute:"I was one of the British soldiers who helped during the rescue operation. I was stationed in Nienburg Weser at the time. I remember how cold it was -20 grad! Everyone in Hamburg were so kind to us giving us food and bier!!!!" Mike Yarnold war damals Rekrut bei den Pionieren (sapper abgekürzt spr. bei den Royal Engineers). http://www.lauritzen-hamburg.de/fotosekke/flut22.jpg http://www.lauritzen-hamburg.de/fotosekke/wilhelmsburg5.jpg The film made in 2008
