John R.
Hello. I am starting this thread to share with you pieces from my collection of Kriegsmarine antiques. No matter your interest, it is my hope that you will enjoy viewing each and every post. Pictured is a metal plaque/emblem for the cruiser Karlsruhe. Note that the word FIDELITAS is Latin for Fidelity. The Karlsruhe was badly damaged by the British submarine HMS Truant on 9 April 1940. Unable to stop the flooding, the Karlsruhe was scuttled at sea and its crew was taken off by the torpedo boat Greif. The U-Boat U-402 used the same emblem as the Karlsruhe. The U-402 was sunk with all-hands in the North Atlantic on 13 October 1943. For reference, a plaque like this one is pictured on page 427 in Volume 3 of Die Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions.
