John R. Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Hello. I am starting this thread to share with you pieces from my collection of Kriegsmarine antiques. No matter your interest, it is my hope that you will enjoy viewing each and every post. Pictured is a metal plaque/emblem for the cruiser Karlsruhe. Note that the word FIDELITAS is Latin for Fidelity. The Karlsruhe was badly damaged by the British submarine HMS Truant on 9 April 1940. Unable to stop the flooding, the Karlsruhe was scuttled at sea and its crew was taken off by the torpedo boat Greif. The U-Boat U-402 used the same emblem as the Karlsruhe. The U-402 was sunk with all-hands in the North Atlantic on 13 October 1943. For reference, a plaque like this one is pictured on page 427 in Volume 3 of Die Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions by John R. Angolia and Adolf Schlicht. 4 Quote
John R. Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 Pictured is another plaque from my collection of Kreigsmarine antiques. The metal plaque mounted on wood is for cruiser Emden. This cruiser spent the majority of time as a training ship. In the final days of the war, the Emden was scuttled to prevent capture. For reference, a plaque like this one is pictured on page 426 in Volume 3 of Die Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions by John R. Angolia and Adolf Schlicht.. 5 Quote

This is a very large and heavy metal ship's plaque awarded to a crew for merit. Only 27 of these plaques were presented. This exact plaque is pictured on page 420 in Volume 3 of Die Kriegsmarine Uniforms & Traditions by John R. Angolia and Adolf Schlicht. 4 Quote

This radio was manufactured by Lorenz for the Kriegsmarine. The Lo1UK35 was used on land and at sea. A radio like this one is on the U-995, which is on display in Laboe Germany. Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 (edited) Pictured from my collection is a typewriter manufactured by Rheinmetaqll-Borsig Aktiengesellschaft/Werk Sömmerda and marked Kriegsmarine on its left side. This type write works today as it did new 80 plus years ago. A typewriter like this one is pictured (first and second from top) on page 408 in Deutsche Kriegsmarine Uniforms, Insignias and Equipment of the German Navy 1933-1945 by Eduardo Delgado. This badge is void of any gilt on its front side. A badge like this one is pictured on page 180 and 181 in Torpedo Los! The Fascinating World of U-Boat Collectibles by Gordon Williamson. John R. Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 Pictured from my collection of Kriegsmarine antiques is the Wehrpass (service record book) issued to Helmut Reichel. He served aboard U-82 from its beginning to the end. The U-82 was sunk with all 45 crewmen perishing on 6 February 1942, North of the Azores by the British sloop HMS Rochester and the corvette HMS Tamarisk. At the time of her sinking, U-82 was operating against convoy OS-18. 4 Quote

He served as a Watch Officer (WO) aboard U-446, then U-438. Rolf participated in all four of U-438’s war patrols, which included 10 Wolfpack operations. On 7 May 1943, Rolf and all of his fellow crewmen (47) died when U-438 was sunk in the North Atlantic by depth charges from the British sloop HMS Pelican. While in the Kriegsmarine, Rolf was awarded the EKII and U-Boat badge. 4 Quote
John R. Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 Pictured from my collection of Kriegsmarine antiques is the Wehrpass issued to Heinz Matz. He served aboard U-506 commanded by Knight Cross recipient Erich Wurdemann. Heinz’s only war patrol was U-506’s last. This U-boat was sunk on 12 July 1943 in the North Atlantic West of Vigo, Spain by depth charges dropped from a US Liberator aircraft, 48 dead and 6 survivors. 4 Quote

Klasse (EKII)' Iron Cross Second Class (right) and an 'Eiserne Kreus I .Klasse (EKI)' Iron Cross First Class (left), these awards were presented to a serviceman of the German Armed Forces for an act of valor in combat. Both crosses were manufactured by the firm Rudolf Wachtler & Lange (100). Pictured below from my Kriegsmarine collection is a colorized studio photograph of a Junior NCO wearing his newly awarded EKII. 4 Quote
