Gildwiller1918
Here is another new item I recently acquired. First of all, I am not an expert on French Field Gear, so if anyone is and wants to add to this, please do so. I had come across this on an auction site, stating it was a WW1 item, and indeed the leather sheath for the saw does resemble other WW1 French leather carriers in both design and materials. The French did use WW1 items through WW2 and beyond. The reason I believe this is a WW2 item is that the saw is marked: Mecano Modele 29, and the sheath with the light tan replacement strap is typical of French items post WW2. A lot of surplus weapons and gear are coming out of Africa, this may be one of them as I have never seen these for sale before.
