Jut
Hi, Am I right in thinking these are a post war copy? I have Gordon Williamson’s book on the Iron Cross and the drawing he has within shows the same details (ID marks) on the reverse. Any ideas much appreciated. Cheers. P.S the more I look the more convinced I am they are 1957 copy or even fake. The balls on the hilts looking crudely finished. Apologies if I have wasted anyones time. Fritz
Very hard to say, you would need to compare with some originals. I would tend to have my doubts, I don't like the look of the two wide Splints, the stamping on reverse looks too crude and large. Most originals seem to have rounded pins rather than flat ones. No need for an acid test, as also the best copies are good silver.
Eddieq
It might just the photo but the back looks flat, oak leaves that I have seen in the flesh, in my hand, that were guaranteed original to WW2 ( 3 no.) were slightly concaved - that’s not to say that there aren’t versions out there from makers that I haven’t seen that are flat backed. With things like this, I always think that the the acid test (if bought or marketed recently), is what you’ve paid for it or what it’s being advertised for. I.e these things aren’t cheap. I wouldn’t know about 1957 versions.
Fritz
Of course, even if a copy, it could be real silver, so the acid test would make no difference.
Kenny Andrew
L/50 is for Godet, but any Godet Oakleaves I have seen have had standard rounded pins, never seen flat pin like these before.
