JamesT
Here is another of my Kingdom of Saxony medal groups. This features the Principality of Reuss Cross of Honour 3rd Class with swords. The first medal is the Saxony Military Order of St. Heinrich, Knight's Cross. The Principality of Reuss was the smallest of the German princely states but was in turn divided into two states each ruled by branches of the Reuss family; the elder and the younger branches. The lands of Reuss were fragmented but bordered the Kingdom of Saxony. I think I am correct in stating that the modern State of Thuringia incorporates most of the former Principality of Reuss.
JamesT
It is possible that this group was awarded to an officer in Saxon Jager Battalion 13. The honorary commander of this battalion was Prince Heinrich XXVII of Reuss (Younger Line).

Most of Thüringen were the Saxon Duchies: Sachsen-Altenburg Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha Sachsen-Meiningen and Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach as well as Reuß, Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, Schwarzburg-Sondershausen

Fritz
Leutnant Schönfeld is not listed under Jäger-Btl. 13 for 1914-18. Where did you get the information from?
Deruelle
Hello, The Ehrenrangliste is not complete. During WW1, 188 officers served in the JB 13 and RJB 13. Here you will find information on the Richter'"s book about St Henry. New publication from 1964.
Deruelle
I worked since 13 years on the Saxon Army during WW1. I focus my collection on the Jäger Btn 13 and Reserve Jäger Btn 13. In the history unit, there is a lot of information. Christophe
Fritz
Yes, I am quite sure that the Ehrenrangliste was not absolutely complete and free of errors. Where did the new publication of 1964 get this information, i.e., from what source is the above extract?
Deruelle
Hi Fritz, The Richter's book gave all owner of St Henry knight cross, commander cross and grand cross. After, I used the regimental history book USLAR-GLEICHEN (Oberst), Das Kgl. Sächs. 2. Jäger Bataillon Nr. 13, Dresden, Baensch, 1927, IX-306 p. KEIL (H.), Das Kgl. Sächs. Reserve Jäger Bataillon Nr. 13, Dresden, Baensch, 1934, 217 p. I used the following book too : HOTTENROTH (J.E.), Sachsen in großer Zeit, Leipzig, Buchhandlung Max Lippold, 1920, 3 vol. , 432 p., 464 p., 462 p. I used the sources too like : Armee Verordnungsblatt Königlich Sächsischen Militär Verordnungsblatt, To complete the job, some german collectors has begun a big file decade ago inwhich all of the saxon officers are inside. I have since 13 years complete a lot. Some medals are not shown inside and I have found them by doing research. This is how I can be sure about some names.
