American M1 helmet

Recommended Posts

recently I was given this M1 helmet by a friend when clearing out his father in laws house. FIL was not a collector but a builder and often given things in payment.

Ive been on a web page but the confusing thing is the inside.

as far as I can tell its post 1944 as has the split rim edge at the back and the correct strap buckle and the strap mounts but the inner looks like fibreglass and the webbing is the crossover style not the hole in the middle type. so,is it late WW2 or Vietnam period? thanks

Kenny is correct, based upon the photos, I would say Vietnam era. The helmet shell could possibly be from WW2, however it was not uncommon for these to be used for several decades. The liner was primarily fiberglass since WW2. There is usually a makers mark in the inside crown of the liner. The chin and nape straps look like Vietnam era as well in your pictures.
