Mark B
Can anybody give their opinion or knowledge on this piece.. It has the right dimensions and it feels right (to me)... No markings and there is no iron content (magnet test)... Do WW1 1st Class Iron Crosses always have an iron core? I thought they some had a silver alloy content.. Hope the photos are good enough to make an opinion..? Any thoughts would be appreciated Edited December 10, 2021 by Mark B Wrong image added 2
Kenny Andrew
Hi Mark, is it a three piece construction, looks like one piece but that might just be the photos ?
Mark B
Evening and thanks for your reply. I'm struggling to see a 3 piece construction on the cross (unlike my 2nd class version)... I'll have another look using macro on my camera 2
Mark B
If anyone sees an issue it would be good to know as soon as possible.. I have a little time to receive a refund if the cross isn't genuine but I'll need to justify it with some good reasons...
Kenny Andrew
These should always be three piece, there is a one piece example which is accepted as original but this is not it. Also the strange heat mark on the back, it would not be for me.
Mark B
Hi Kenny, So this is a fake in your opinion and it would be best to get a replacement?
Kenny Andrew
Yes it just looks wrong even the date looks odd, much better ones out there, in fact I think I think we are getting a nice cased one next week.
Mark B
Thanks Kenny.. I thought the 9 looked a bit too curly and the bottom of the numbers had a bit too much strength too them.. Should there always be three layers, an iron content for any 1st Class Iron Cross? Where are you based if you are getting in an WW1 cross? I might be interested.. I am going to ask for my money back on that one. Regards
Mark B
Well that is the request for a refund in and now I'll be looking for a 'genuine' 1st Class WW1 iron cross....
Kenny Andrew
Hi Mark, We are in Scotland ,yes always three parts other than the one I mentioned which is totally different to this one.
