How easy or hard is it to identify cloth headgear made during the First or Second World Wars?

I have done a bunch of research on what to look for when it comes to whether metal helmets were genuine or not. Heat stamps, what kind of metal it is made out of etc. However, I want to get into collecting genuine cloth headgear from the period of the First and Second World Wars. Can you guys give me any tips on how tell whether something is genuine? Any examples would be good. Thanks!

Hi Chief, welcome to the forum, that's a rather wide question, if you could suggest a more specific item of cloth headgear we might be able to help

As Kenny said, it would be easier to answer if you had an idea of exactly what you are looking for. WW1 headgear such as soft caps, etc. can get quite expensive. WW2 versions are slightly cheaper, but are going up in price. What country/branch of service are you interested in?
