Luckily I found a source and bought some up as these don't come up very often. First is a pair of boards for the 95th Infantry Regiment (6th Thuringian). These are the type introduced in 1915. This regiment was shared between Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha and Sachsen-Meiningen, the monogram is of the joint initials of Georg von Sachsen-Meiningen and Carl Eduard von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, I. Battalion was in Gotha, II. Battalion. was in Hildburghausen, III. Battalion. was in Coburg. Fritz Posted April 23, 2021 Share Posted April 23, 2021 The double or treble rowing of the embroidery is typical for this monogram, as seen on the few examples which rarely turn up. Very nice set. This pair was for stitching just flush over the shoulder seam and not sewn in. Beware of copies on the market, these quality custom made pieces and complete uniforms are available, they have to be ordered, which does not mean that they cannot be sold after use and a lot of wear. These are hardly discernable from the originals. "Made in Württemberg" Early 1915 "hybrid" tunic. Mecklenburgisches Jäger-Bataillon 14 - complete remake, apart from rifle and equipment. Not feldgrau, but graugrün. Grey greatcoat as worn at the beginning of the war Also a complete remake, very good detail. 4. Chevauleger-Regiment, remake from head to foot. The 301st and 302nd company were part of the Guard Ersatz Division which was in the 6th Army as of March 1918. The 6th Army was commanded by the crown prince, Generaloberst Rupprecht. The division was formed in 1914, and fought in the west during the initial battles and the race towards the sea. In 1916, it fought at the battle of Verdun, 1917, fought in the 2nd battle of Asine. In July of 1917 they were sent to the Baltic region but returned in September 1917 and remained in the western theater till war’s end. Order of battle on March 8, 1918 Garde-Ersatz-Brigade: 6. Someone I know had a relative in 8.K./II./ Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 440. The last photo was taken in February 1917, shortly after that he fell. That must have been on the Verdun front. He was from Delmenhorst and had served pre-war in Infanterie-Regiment Bremen. I have mentioned him in a previous post "Feuersturm über Hamburg..." (History Forum) and with photos. Willi Schmold + (centre), 8.K./II. Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 440, 12. February 1917 (near Verdun) I got this officer's shoulder piece for the local museum last year. Gildwiller1918 Posted April 27, 2021 Author Share Posted April 27, 2021 Nice sets Fritz, it is amazing how high the numbers go, I imagine with all the losses and shifting the forces from the eastern front to the west, a lot of reorganizing was done. The highest number I saw when researching was for the Württembergisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 627, although some infantry battalions were listed in the 700's as well. 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
