Gildwiller1918
Here is a new addition to the collection. A Mle. 1916 Kugel type grenade. It is similar to the German types, however the frag pattern is different, little more crude in construction and its more oval than round in shape. This one has a German type fuse that came with it. Only difference I have seen with the fuse is that the Russian type has more threads and has grooves on the exterior whereas the German types are smooth bodied (see side by side picture). I have not found out much on these types so far, other forums have minimal information as well. Perhaps other members can shed some light on this item. There is a picture of the Russian model next to the German M13 type for size comparison, the Russian type is slightly smaller.
Achtung Spitfire!
Nice find Not come across one of these before. Two of my M13s (possibly on another thread) with different fragmentation patterns and yes a replica pannier.
Gildwiller1918
Nice, I do remember a vendor that sold those carriers in the UK....Russian grenades are interesting, I am looking for the M17 gas grenade now.
Achtung Spitfire!
Landed this Russian model 1916 Kugel recently and it came with the correct Russian traction igniter fuze which made it a really nice find
