Gildwiller1918
Here is a WW1 French Petard grenade or tube grenade. This was the explosive device placed on the hairbrush/petard grenades, however they were also used by themselves. In the early stages of the war, the French were in need of grenades, as most of theirs were antiquated and of limited supply. So these improvised models were used as a stopgap until production could begin on more up to date models. This item was filled with melinite or cheddite.
