Teddy Toy Company MK3 liner maker?

Helene

Recommended Posts

hello everybody,

I have  found in my dad’s garage what seems like an MK3 helmet but with a liner marked TTC 11   194?

The last number Looks like a 3  so 1943 but when I google Teddy Toy  Company  it seems like they only produced helmet liners  until 1942...
any idea ?

Thank you very much for your help

Welcome to the forum Helene, Teddy Toy Co Ltd of Dagenham made them from 1939 - 1943, try rubbing a little talc on the stamp

mark to enhance it. I've seen their liners stamped up to 1943.

Is there any maker stamp marks on the helmet?

Hi Leon,

What a good idea I’ll try that! As for the maker stamp on the helmet, where should I find it? I daren’t pull on the liner too much as it looks a bit cracked . Or maybe I should try unscrewing it...

thanks a lot!

Hello Helene, typically the helmet stamp would be around the inside brim, and sometimes the chinstrap lugs may have dates as well. I would not take the helmet apart, as you said, it looks a little fragile.

Thanks Gildwiller, I had a look but can’t find any mark ... very frustrating!
I’ll try with some talcum powder tomorrow but I’m nearly sure it’s 1943

But can you tell me if the 11 of the TTC means November?

Hi Helene, the TTC II = Mark 2, the liner would be stamped III for a Mark 3 liner.

Hi Leon, so that I get it right, you mean the liner is a Mark 2, but is  the helmet a mark 3 as I think it is ? Sorry if I’m a bit thick...

Thanks  for sharing your Science

The best way to tell if its a mk3 or mk4 is to look were the rivet is on the side of the helmet shell, below are photo's of both.

1st photo is a mk3.

2nd photo is the mk4.

The mk3 helmet was made by three companies they were.

Briggs Motor Bodies ( BMB ) of Dagenham.

Fisher & Ludlow ( F & L ) of Castle Bromwich.

Rubery  Owen Co Ltd ( RO & CO ) of Leeds.

The Belgians produced the mk3 helmet post war but do not have any maker stamp or date marks on their shells.

Hope this helps.
