Fritz
"Menzel kann man nie genug loben..." Adolph von Menzel, born 8. December 1815 in Breslau, had an amazing eye for detail. He attracted the interest of the Kaiser, who made it possible to view historical uniform objects in the collections of the Zeughaus in Berlin. These sketches were basicly studies for incorporation into large dimensional paintings recollecting famous battles. For his work, he was raised to nobility and received the Black Eagle Order in 1898. His contemporary, Theodor Fontane had only received the Order of the Crown 4th Class and the Mecklenburg Ehrenkreuz of the Orden der Wendischen Krone for his literary works about Brandenburg-Prussia and related historical topics. Menzel died on 9. February 1905 in Berlin.
