Regiment Ak Garde Infanterist, 2. Garde Regt zu Fuß, Garde Grenadier, 5. Garde Grenadier Regt

Not a photo, just a postcard. Uniform illustration depicting the modified field tunic of early 1915 with simplified cuffs and no rear skirting ornamentation. Examples are of two renowned regiments with special mention of the decoration of each soldier, being unusual awards for soldiers, the medal of the Kronenorden and the Rettungsmedaille, ribbons worn on second button-hole. The leather equipment has been blackened, according to late 1915 regulation, with old style cartridge boxes.

Austro-Hungarian forces operate a Becker Type M2 20mm anti-aircraft gun. The M2 was originally designed to be used in aircraft, but was adapted for many other uses and was the inspiration for the famous Oerlikon 20mm canon in WW2

Low quality, but rare wartime image of the MP18, generally regarded as the first sub machine gun.

Came across this very interesting photo while searching the net. It appears to be munitions storage area, with 1915 Kugels piled up, 1913 kugels in the belt carriers, 1916 stick grenades and just behind the shoulder of the soldier is trench periscope rifle attachment that is folded up.

Early photo, although not very clear or crisp, it does show the use of the hairbrush improvised grenades, a rare sight.

Clear image of a Maschinengewehr 08 or MG 08 on its sled mount. This model has the add on armor kit, protecting the water jacket. Visible is the 250 round cloth belt coming from the ammo can which held 2 of these belts. Beneath the gun you can see an oil can and several kugel grenades as well.

CarlEduardSachsenCoburgGotha.jpg

March 6, 1954: Carl Eduard, Duke of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha, died of cancer at age sixty-nine in Coburg. The son of Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont, he was a grandson of Queen Victoria and the last reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Basically forced by his grandmother into becoming Duke, he lost the Ducal throne after 1918 and had his British titles stripped from him in 1919 because he had fought in the German army. He later joined the Nazi party in Germany, serving in a number of positions, before he was beggared by the fines imposed by the denazification court and losing properties to the Soviet army. He is the maternal grandfather of the reigning Swedish monarch, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Ist möglicherweise ein Bild von 5 Personen, Personen, die stehen und außen

Decorated Bavarian infantrymen pose with two French prisoners of war. The soldier in the centre wears the insignia of the Chasseur à pied (French light infantry) on his helmet, the other one isn't so clear (possibly an artilleryman)
Of note is the 20-round Grabenmagazin fitted to the Gew 98 on the right. These magazines were generally issued to troops in defensive positions as they were cumbersome and generally unpopular with the men in the field. It is unusual to see one out of a trench position.
