Gildwiller1918
In the early part of the twentieth century, during the process of reviewing the equipment for use with the new M-1903 rifle, the Army experimented with a number of different patterns and material for cups. In 1903 granite ware enameling, popular with civilian kitchen items, was examined and field tested, and found to be poisonous with acidic foods. This cup, although a failure, led to the Equipment Board of 1909. which recommended a canteen, cup and cover combination in which the cup fit over the bottom of the canteen and both were fitted into a canteen cover (the M1910 series).
