Gildwiller1918 Posted August 28, 2019 Share Posted August 28, 2019 I have what I think is a WW1 era Dienstglas, just need some help in confirming this. I have looked online and the serial number ranges are all over the place. The link below offers the best information as far as identification goes. The glasses are marked on the left with "Carl Zeiss Jena", on the right side "Dienstglas, DF 6x30, 834431" which according the site below has in the Oct-Dec of 1917 range as this is where the military glasses had one screw holding the top prism plate and 3 on the bottom. The second link below shows the serial number as 1918. The exposed metal parts are not the earlier brass but zinc instead. The glasses are overall in good shape and the optics are still clear. It came with a case as well. Fritz Posted August 29, 2019 Share Posted August 29, 2019 A WW2 Dienstglas, the typical fieldglass of the Landser. The neckstrap is also WW2 with aluminium buttons, the carrying box may be earlier. It still has the name instead of the later introduced three letter blc maker code. I had several of these fieldglasses. They were usually carried without the case, with a protective lid, which slid down the strap, they also had a leather tab to button to the front of the tunic.
