WW1 Purple Heart

Recommended Posts

Here is an item I recently acquired, a purple heart medal for Private Roscoe L. Humphreys, service number 572257, wounded on August 6th 1918. He was a member of the 58th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. He did survive the war, but I don't have any more information. The medal itself was not available until 1932, retroactive to honor those wounded in WW1. During WW1, wounds were denoted by a inverted chevron, gold colored on the wearers lower right sleeve.
