With buried or sunken munition, it is only a question of time before they rust and release their contents into the environment, or explode.
The beaches of the Baltic Coast regularly reveal traces of phosphorous, which are often mistaken for amber or "Bernstein", this is highly dangerous
and inflamable when exposed to the air or warm temperatures.
U-Boot wreck off Belgian coast near Oostende. The exact spot is to remain a secret to prevent "Tauchtourismus".

Yes I remember back in 2015 when a local man picked up what he thought was a coloured pebble and put it in his jeans pocket, a short while later

it burst into flames burning him badly, turned out it was a piece of white phosphorous used in ammunition  he had picked up on the beach.

That is exactly what happens, it has happened numerous times on the Baltic Coast.
