Hello,

Just picked up this WW1 Iron Cross 2nd Class and wanted to double check its authenticity here as its the first Iron Cross I've collected. It does pass the magnet test and there seems to be a faint makers mark on the ring although I cant identify it for certain.

Thank you for your help!

That is an original. Photos are clear, but can't quite decipher the maker's mark. Ask a few more opinions on the marks. You will need a nice old ribbon for that.

To me it looks like its marked HB an unknown maker and location most likely Paul Hossauer in Berlin.

Hello, I have this iron cross 1939 1st class, round, screwback, so I'm wondering if it's original or fake, the back has only the inscription GES.GESCH., no other marks?

I know a bit of history about this cross.

It looks very unusual, and have reddish color like copper or bronze idk, I couldn't find a single similar cross on the internet.

The proof that this is an original Iron Cross is the story behind it.

The soldier who received this iron cross is also the holder of another medical medal that is on picture.

This soldier was caught in Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and imprisoned in Banja Luka in the Black House (something like a court, torture house or prison for domestic traitors and enemies), and was sentenced to be shot or hanged.

This iron cross and another medal were found in evidence from year 1949.

And I bought these medals from the man who worked on cleaning the Black House in Banja Luka.

Iron cross is in good condition, curved, have a screwback, and it is nonmagnetic. In addition, there are no markings except for the GES.GESCH. mark on back, which means "gesetzlich geschützt" or in English "legally protected".

Because of that story and this other medal belonging to the same soldier, the conclusion is that the iron cross is original, even though it looks strange. I came to the conclusion that it might be an earlier version or something like that, not sure.

I think the Iron cross may have been repaired or something like that because the screw mechanism is a little off-center and it doesn't look like other crosses.

So I think it's unlikely that it's fake, and it also have signs of wear, but there's still a possibility that it is fake, who knows.

Maybe it's a souvenir.

Hi Adem, welcome to the forum, sorry to say the cross is a very bad copy, there are allot of these type of badges coming out of Poland at the moment.

You might not be the only one that this man who worked on cleaning the Black House in Banja Luka has sold this story to.

Do you perhaps know if the second medal is also a copy?

There is not much information on the internet, but this is the description from few shop sites:

Imperial Germany - Wurttemberg: WW1 (1914-1918) badge of the Association of the Red Cross Veterans  (nurses, medics and doctors) who served  with the Land Forces during the WW1.

Maker marked by W.Mayer & Fr. Wilhelm in Stuttgart.

Hello, does anyone know if this is an original medal?

Der Deutschen Mutter  16. December 1938

With Adolf Hitler signature

It looks like the original to me, but I want to confirm it.

I hope it is not a problem that I am asking (on this forum) whether other medals besides the Iron Cross are original or fake?

Thanks guys

Firstly, not an iron cross, belongs in the German medals section. Looks like an original.
All other medals are faked nowadays.

It is a Mothers Cross, its looks ok from the photos shown. The signature does look low down but I think it is ok.

Hi,

I bought this Iron Cross off ebay. It passed the magnet test but has no makers mark. It looks as though someone has tried to fix the catch on it.

could someone advise if this is authentic please?

sorry I don't like it , lower frame at 3 o'clock mishapen and odd solder on back, not the quality you would expect for a 1st class iron cross.

It looks ok, certainly well worn, catch has been repaired, not unusual for a decoration worn all the time.

Hello, does anyone know is this badge original and what it its value?

It looks like early Austrian n.s.d.a.p. Badge and if it is, than it is very rare?

Hello, an Iron Cross 2nd Class has recently come into my possession, following a house clearance of an elderly relative, and I was wondering if it's an  original WW1 medal or a fake/replica?

The ribbon loop has been removed, for some reason, so unable to confirm any makers mark.

Hi everyone. I picked up these two medals at a local estate sale. I’ve done a little bit of research and I think the ribbon might be on the wrong medal?  All the pictures I’ve seen the ribbons with the black center belong on the war merit badge not the iron Cross. I dont see any markings on the rings. Do these look real to y’all?
