Bundesgrenzschutz

Formed to control the borders in the early postwar years, the Bundesgrenzschutz was formed in the early 1950s. It was more of a police force than an army, and wore the only decent postwar uniforms in West Germany after WW2. Still existing today, as a Federal Police Force with duties inland and now known simply as the Bundespolizei, the uniforms have since changed, but the old 50s uniform was in use till after re-unification. The steel helmet was reminiscent of the M.40 helmet, but with some minor differences.
The initial standard armament was the K.98, of which 18.000 were purchased back by the Adenauer Government from France at an exhorbitant price!
