The Fall of the Monarchy and the Revolution of 1918/19

One hundred years ago, on the afternoon of the 7. November 1918, His Majesty König Ludwig III. was informed that the Revolution in Bavaria had taken place. Kurt Eisener had proclaimed the end of the Monarchy in Bavaria and a Räterepublik in Soviet manner.

The King was advised to leave Munich due to the uncertainty of the situation und the general lack of support for the Monarchy. The King left his Residence with his closest family members and headed in the direction of Chiemsee. A Deed of Abdication followed.
The Royal House of Wittelsbach had ruled since 1180.

Kurt Eisner

Eisner proclaimed on 8. November 1918 the "Bavarian Free State" and declared King Ludwig III. deposed.  Eisner was elected by the Assembly of the Workers and Soldiers Councils as Ministerpräsident.

Kurt Eisner led the Soviet Repubic of Bavaria for several months. He was slain in February 1919  by the a 19 year old former officer, Anton Graf von Arco auf Vallée
