Fritz
6. March 1945, dramatic moments in Cologne in the final stages of the war. One solitary Panther had destroyed a Sherman moments before. The Americans called up a complete armoured unit with infantry. The Panther was hit directly as it turned a corner at the square before Cologne Cathedral. Three of the crew baled out moments before a second shell hit the Panther, two of them were shot by machine gun fire from their opponent, one man is thought to have escaped. The tank commander failed to escape from the burning vehicle and perished. The burnt out wreck stood for months before it was finally removed.
