Fritz
Interesting and forgotten historical photos of the end phase of the Reichswehr and transition into the Wehrmacht, with splendid march music with fanfare. This particualar march I have not heard before, it is simply known as "Fanfarenmarsch" composed by Ernst Stieberitz. The old Reichswehr uniforms are shown here, which were still worn with slight modifications by the new Wehrmacht. Note also the old steel helmets of Mod.1916, 17 and 18. The fieldgrey uniforms of the old army continued to be worn by the new Reichswehr after 1919, and were gradually modified. Remaining stocks of fieldgrey uniforms from the war continued to be worn. Some modifications were added in the early 1920s are these were worn in the field and manoevres. A new pattern for walking out dress also evolved around 1921. In some of the photos the soldiers are wearing black arm bands shortly after the death of Reichspräsident Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg in August 1934, and are being sworn in with an oath of allegiance to the new Reichspräsident Adolf Hitler.
