British Mk. 1* Brodie Helmet Liner Securing Bolt

Hi all,

I have just purchased a WW2 Air Raid Warden’s helmet.

The only issue is that it is missing it’s Liner Securing Bolt.

I am wandering if anyone has one spare or knows anywhere i could find one, I have searched the google results with no luck.

Here is an example image of the item, though preferably I wouldn’t want a brass one.

Original or decent replicas will be fine.

Many Thanks,

Tom

I would say check the internet. There is also a couple of film clips on youtube about restoring British and American Brodie helmets of WW1 and WW2 period, they also make or supply spare parts. Some of these may be located in USA. Try contacting them when you find them.

Hi Tom, never a good idea to buy something which is not complete, always spend a little more if you can to get the best example. Incomplete and damaged items will be tough to sell later on.

Hi Kenny,

The helmet looked in a rather nice condition with the paint looking fine, all the markings and stamps looked nice. Liner looks decent.

Here are some pics from the listing, it will hopefully arrive tomorrow.

The lining securing bolt for the Mk1 helmet had a habit of coming loose causing the liner to spin round inside

the helmet shell, to combat this a redesigned MK1 bolt-with longer screw thread ( 9.37mm compared to 7.8mm )

and a new nut was introduced. This nut was an existing proprietary model called the "Simmonds Elastic Stop Nut".

Manufactured by Messers Nevilles (Liverpool) Ltd. The nut was made of brass and contained a rubber washer which

stopped the bolt from becoming loose.

It does look a nice helmet Tom, I was wondering how it would have been minus its bolt, but Leon has given the answer.

Sorry for late reply Leon but here you go:

Hard to get a good angle with enough light without having to remove the liner.
